Iconic Beginnings

In 1875 Jules Louis Audemars, decided to join forces with Edward Auguste Piguet, in order to develop and craft watches equipped with complex mechanisms. They shared a passion for watchmaking and a mastery of the art of precision that still characterizes the company today.

Past Innovations

The business started with Audemars managing the production and technical part, and Piguet focusing on sales, and success was not immediate. The Audemars Piguet trademark was registered in 1882; however, it would be seven years later that the company was officially founded. At this point, Audemars Piguet et Cie became one of the largest employers for watch-making in the whole of Vaud, southwestern Switzerland. In 1892 they developed the first minute repeater wristwatch.

The company opened its first branch in Geneva in 1889, and began creating its own components and assembling within its factory with direct supervision and strict quality control. Audemars Piguet continued to try and revolutionize the watch industry and in 1915 they introduced the smallest five-minute repeater calibre ever made, with a diameter of just 15.80 mm. Again in 1967 they developed the world’s first thinnest self-winding calibre with central rotor (2.45 mm). To this day they continue to improve upon their already prestigious brand.

Present

Today, Audemars Piguet is still the oldest fine watch-making manufacturer never to have left the hands of its founding families. This gives the company an independent streak that allows it to go its own way and follow its own unique vision. The company currently consists of about 1,100 employees and can produce about 26,000 timepieces per year. Their current collection consists of the Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Millenary, Jules Audemars, Tradition, Classique.

Brand Ambasadors

Like many other brands of luxury watches, Audemars Piguet has a number of ambassadors, including: Ian Poulter, Bud Cauley, Cristie Kerr, Lebron James, Lee Westwood, Leo Messi, Michael Schumacher, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Svetlana Zakharova among many other personalities and athletes. Not only does Audemars Piguet sponsor personalities and athletes, in 2007 the offered support to the Clinton Foundation. This Foundation works around the world on global issues. The company created the Jules Audemars Clinton Foundation Equation of Time watch in a limited edition of 126 pieces. The watch incorporated complex astronomical features. It shows sunrise and sunset times, perpetual calendar, and astronomical moon.
